Aluminum Free Deodorant

What’s NOT in Type:A Deodorant

With the new year coming up, we are all making resolutions. So many ways to live life a little healthier! Making more time for self-care or cooking one new recipe every week are fantastic goals. A super-easy swap – switching to an aluminum free deodorant in 2021. Traditional antiperspirants are typically made with many ingredients that may be harmful to your health. Type:A deodorant, on the other hand, is made with entirely safe ingredients that are ALL listed right on the package, no secrets. Here are 5 toxic ingredients that are NOT in Type:A Deodorant.

Aluminum

Aluminum is used in “traditional” antiperspirants and deodorants to plug sweat ducts, causing the sweat to simply not come out. This can be effective at keeping you dry. However, sweating is how our bodies release toxins, so plugging these ducts is forcing your body to reabsorb those toxins. Some studies even suggest that the exposure to aluminum in deodorant can contribute to an increased risk of Alzheimer’s disease and cancer. And no, there’s no such thing as a Deodorant with the least amount of aluminum.

Parabens

Preservative parabens are notorious for disrupting natural hormone mechanisms by mimicking estrogen in your body, potentially causing reproductive issues.

Phthalates

Phthalates, a plasticizing chemical, are typically used in traditional deodorants to make them more pliable and improve fragrance absorption. Also found in insecticide and vinyl flooring, phthalates have been linked to birth defects and asthma. Not something I would recommend putting on one of the most sensitive parts of your body!

Polyethylene Glycol (PEGs)

Polyethylene Glycol, more commonly referred to as PEGs, is used as a thickener in many cosmetic products. However, it can also be found in antifreeze and laxatives and is often contaminated with potential carcinogens ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane.

Propylene Glycol

Propylene Glycol is what gives traditional stick deodorants their firm texture. It is also usually sourced from natural gas or petroleum that can cause skin irritation.

Woof, that was a lot of complicated words. But good news is -- you won’t have to think about them again (not in terms of deodorant, at least)! Switching to Type:A deodorant means guaranteeing that you’re not exposing your armpits to any of those toxic ingredients. Setting a resolution to switch to clean deodorant is as simple as that. Plus, it’s just about the easiest resolution to keep! ;)
