Happy Earth Day to All of Us!

Happy Earth Day to All of Us!

We celebrate clean living all year long here at Type:A, doing our part to make a change for a healthier environment. But we do love Earth Day as it shines a light on the many ways we can support a cleaner, greener planet.

And so, this Earth Day, we’re donating a portion of all online sales to the Environmental Working Group - aka, the EWG.  The EWG is on a mission to promote a healthier environment, in part, by helping consumers make informed and safer personal care choices. They recognize that our health is directly impacted by our environment … our homes, offices, vehicles, clothes, products and (of course) nature are all part of that environment.

The EWG’s motto is “Know your environment. Protect your health”.  Their research and activism empowers consumers to make informed decisions on everything from the food they eat, to the sunscreen they use, to the companies they support. In the past few years, EWG has helped identify contaminants in tap water, pushed more at-risk kids to be tested for lead poisoning and supported a bill requiring manufacturers to disclose ingredients in home and commercial cleaning products (just to name a few!). And, ICYMI, a cleaner environment (clean tap water, pesticide-free produce, etc) has a direct connection to a healthier life.

Many of you might already be familiar with the EWG’s clean beauty resource, the Skin Deep database, where you can search for personal care products and understand whether or not these products have any potential hazards or questionable ingredients. (Think of it as Consumer Reports, but for personal care products, and with a focus on safety). In addition to the Skin Deep database, EWG provides numerous other helpful resources for consumers, including:

Tap Water Database: See how the tap water in your area is rated and whether it has any contaminants and which ones (plus a handy resource on the best water filters to buy).
Conservation Database:Find the conservation program nearest to you and see which ones are getting the most federal support.
The Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce: Ever wondered which fruits and vegetables for which you MUST only shop organic? Look no further than this helpful guide on clean (and not so clean) produce.
Rate Your Plate: This guide helps take the guesswork out of trying to eat healthy and provides a food score rating that factors in GMOs and processed food. Hint: less is more!

Knowledge really is power and EWG provides the knowledge we need to make better choices for ourselves and the environment. To learn more about the amazing resources and consumer advocacy work that the EWG supports, check them out here:  https://www.ewg.org/
